Privacy policy
Spen does not collect, transmit or store your personal or financial data. Everything you enter stays on your device. This page explains that in full.
The short version
- We do not ask you to create an account.
- We do not collect your name, email, phone number or location.
- Your transactions, budgets, accounts and trips are stored only on your device.
- We do not read your SMS messages or connect to your bank.
- We show no advertising and use no advertising identifiers.
- We do not sell, share or transfer any data, because we do not have any.
What the app stores, and where
Everything you enter into Spen — transactions, categories, accounts, budgets, recurring payments, trips and profiles — is written to a database file inside the app's private storage on your Android device. It is not uploaded anywhere. Uninstalling the app removes it.
Google Drive backup
Spen offers an optional backup to your own Google Drive. If you turn this on:
- The backup file is placed in your personal Google Drive account, under your control.
- We have no access to that file, that account, or any of its contents.
- Google's handling of files in your Drive is covered by Google's own privacy policy.
- You can turn the feature off or delete the backup at any time from your Drive.
If you never enable it, nothing is uploaded at all.
Permissions the app requests
- Notifications — to send budget alerts, recurring bill reminders and spending summaries. These are generated on your device.
- Biometric — only if you choose to lock the app with your fingerprint. Biometric data is handled by Android and is never visible to Spen.
- Alarms and restart-on-boot — so scheduled reminders still fire after you restart your phone. No data is sent when they run.
- Internet and network state — used only for the optional Google Drive backup. The app functions fully without it.
Spen requests no storage permission. When you import or export a CSV, Android's own file picker hands the app that single file and nothing else — Spen cannot browse your device's storage.
Spen does not request SMS access, contacts, call logs, camera, microphone or precise location.
Analytics and crash reporting
The app contains no third-party analytics or advertising software development kits. Google Play provides us with aggregate, anonymous statistics about installs, uninstalls and crashes for any app on the Play Store. That data is produced by Google, is not linked to you by us, and we cannot use it to identify any individual user.
Children
Spen is a general-purpose personal finance tool and is not directed at children under 13. Since we collect no data at all, we do not knowingly or unknowingly collect data from children.
This website
This site is a set of static pages hosted on Cloudflare. It sets no tracking cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers to fetch them; that is covered by Google's privacy policy. Standard server logs may be retained by the hosting provider for security and reliability.
Your rights
Regulations such as the GDPR and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act give you rights over your personal data — access, correction, deletion and portability. Since we hold none of your data, there is nothing for us to hand over or erase. Your data is in your hands:
- Export — CSV export from within the app, at any time.
- Delete — uninstalling the app removes the database. Delete any Drive backup separately from your own Drive.
Changes to this policy
If Spen ever changes in a way that affects this policy — for example if an optional cloud feature is added — this page will be updated and the date at the top changed. Any feature that would involve sending data off your device would be opt-in and clearly described before you enable it.
